Oregon Rock
We tried to rock Eugene, but they just weren't having it. They didn't seem too upset about it either, bless their phlegmatic little hearts. So we drove off to Portland.
In Portland, things went considerably better. We played, I am not making this up, in the "fuck pit" at 1036(?) Shaver. Chased and Smashed got the ball rolling, then OFR stepped up to rock, and the show finished with a flourish as Allergic to Bullshit mopped up the floor with the assemblage.
Not our best show ever, but probably the last one for a while. Things are going to be up in the air a bit this winter, until our (still hypothetical?) east coast tour this January. Depending on circumstances, we may do a quickie record-release party type show at Mission Records in SF, but otherwise, the world will be OFR-less until at least January.
Thanks to Dave who seems to have organized the show and graciously invited dozens of folks into his basement to be nearer to the rock. Thanks also to the always amazing and amazingly nice Erin Yanke, who organized the mini-tour, and allowed us to stay at her house...and even fed us! Erin's a long-time OFR booster, and we love her.
If you're reading this from Portland, Dave, a school teacher, mentioned some stuff schools need desperately:
Large dry-erase board
5-10 Spanish/English dictionaries
Inexpensive walkman with headphones
Long jump ropes
Electric pencil sharpener
Ream of purple neon paper
marker sets
Measuring tapes
3 Magnadoodles
Heavy duty stapler
12A1990 (Lexmark) in cartridge
Set of encyclopedias (no older than 1980)
Dave's number is (503)287-1412
It truly sucks to see public schools in such dire circumstances that they must beg for supplies, but I have one question for poor old OR: ever considered charging sales tax?
The only other thing worth mentioning is a question I was asked after OFR played: "Was that song you played (Butterfly) a Hello Shitty People cover?" Well, shame on them for not mentioning it on the 7" they released, but Hello Shitty People recorded and released my song, "Butterflies," a.k.a., "I Hate Myself," with neither my knowledge nor my permission.
Most of HSP are friends of mine, even now, so it's not like I'm holding a grudge here. I just want it known that when you hear OFR playing "Butterflies," it is an original performance by the songwriter, and not a tribute to some inconsiderate Gainesville band. So I'll just say I hope they play many shows in Eugene.
